Audra is an artist who stands out in terms of the range and range of her skills as a performer and songwriter. Her other credits for theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) in which she made her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921, and all That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2019) and Ohio State Murders (2023). It was the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters First 100 Years that first introduced McDonald viewers to her talents as a dramatic actress. She went on to co-star alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the lauded 1999 television adaptation of Annie and in 2000 she had a recurring role in NBC's smash series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's Emmy-nominated performance of Emma Thompson in Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was produced by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to the network TV screen was in 2003, in which she co-starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. Beginning in 2006, she was part of the cast of the show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had the role of a regular on the television series of NBC, Kidnapped. McDonald won a 4th Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill, which aired on HBO in the year 2016. The following year, McDonald was a co-star alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale as part of The Bite, a pandemic drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald played U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first appeared in CBS's The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. It was her turn to reprise the role in the year 2018, playing an episode the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of her performance, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. The actress is currently appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
